CoRK EAST, STUDIO 10
Susan Davenport Ober was born and reared in Virginia. As an adult, she lived in South Carolina, Virginia and Washington before moving to North Florida in 1987. She earned a BS degree in art education at Longwood College in Virginia and did post-graduate study in art education at Virginia Commonwealth University. At University of North Florida she earned a BFA with an emphasis in drawing.
She has had a nearly life-long interest in portraiture and figurative representation. In this pursuit, she has used a wide range of media, including vine charcoal, pastel, oil, and watercolor as well as clay, wax, and bronze. In recent years she has been better known for floral and still life painting.
In her current work, she uses the tool of photography to capture, preserve, enlarge, and reveal. She uses the vehicle of oil painting to interpret the discoveries she makes from her photographs of a transient subject.
Ober has participated in both solo and group shows in the southeastern states. Her work has received both regional and national recognition and is in private, corporate and museum collections.
